Sherwin Williams Color of the Year

One of the biggest questions in paint is: What color is trending right now?

After years of researching paint trends, I’ve noticed a significant difference between what designers say is trending and what people are actually painting in their homes. So, to help you choose the right color, I’ll cover both—what’s hot in the design world and what’s actually making its way onto walls in real homes.

2025 Home Interior Design Trending Paint Colors

The big color trends in the interior design world for 2025 continue to revolve around blues and greens, often paired with neutral tones.

Both Sherwin Williams and Benjamin Moore have selected blues as their Colors of the Year once again.

Sherwin Williams Upward remains a favorite—a soft, airy blue with subtle purple undertones. This shade is elegant and calming, perfect for bedrooms and living spaces. However, because of its slight purple hue, it doesn’t always coordinate with the more common blue-green tones found in popular home décor items from stores like Pottery Barn and HomeGoods. If Upward blends well with your space, it’s a sophisticated choice that won’t disappoint.

Benjamin Moore’s 2025 Color of the Year follows a similar trend but leans toward a slightly moodier blue, offering a richer, more dramatic feel. While these blues are popular in magazines and designer spaces, they tend to be used sparingly in real homes—mainly for accent walls, cabinetry, or statement pieces rather than entire rooms.

Alongside blues, earthy greens continue to dominate. Shades like Evergreen Fog and October Mist—previous Colors of the Year—are still being used extensively, particularly on kitchen cabinets and built-ins.

Additionally, bold, saturated hues are gaining traction with designers, particularly in the “color drenching” trend, where entire rooms are painted in deep greens, moody blues, or even soft black. While this look is stunning in high-end designs, it’s not as practical for the average homeowner, as deep, dark colors tend to go out of style quickly. Instead, most homeowners incorporate these colors in small doses, like kitchen islands, trim, or accent walls.

2025 Paint Colors People Are Actually Using in Their Homes

While designers embrace dramatic hues, most homeowners continue to gravitate toward neutrals, neutrals, neutrals. Whites, beiges, and taupes remain top choices, with subtle shifts in undertones setting them apart.

Crisp whites such as Pure White (SW 7005), soft whites like Alabaster, and warm whites like Shoji White are still highly sought after. However, beige is making a major comeback—but not the pinky-beige of the early 2000s. Modern beige tones, like Natural Linen, offer a warm, cozy feel that pairs well with whites, blacks, grays, and warm-toned accents.

If you’re looking for a color that’s both on-trend and timeless, beige is the way to go. It’s a great transition color, working beautifully with the whites and creams from the modern farmhouse trend while also complementing the newer gold and wood-tone accents that are gaining popularity.

Beige also pairs well with many accent colors, including blues, greens, pinks, and terracottas, making it incredibly versatile. It fits seamlessly into a variety of design styles, from farmhouse and coastal to boho, traditional, and transitional.

A key tip when choosing beige is to avoid shades with strong yellow or pink undertones. Taupe tones—a beige-gray blend with subtle purple undertones—are also a fantastic choice for those looking for a warm but modern look.

Should You Paint Your Home Beige in 2025?

Since painting is both a time and financial investment, it’s important to pick a color that you’ll love for years to come.

If you’re not ready to commit fully to beige, consider a soft white with beige undertones, like Shoji White, for a more subtle approach. And remember—trends are fun to follow, but ultimately, the best paint color for your home is the one that makes you happy!
